Our mission to elevate circus arts in the United States through high-impact and accessible festival and residency programs. Hupstate aims to continually bring visibility to how vibrant, diverse, and exciting the art form of circus is.

  • The Hupstate Circus Festival

Since 2021, Hupstate has garnered international acclaim for its extensive programming and wide draw, making it the only all-circus international performance festival in the US. Past festival have seen attendance of over 4000, including over 800 participants from out of state representing 20 states and 5 countries.

  • The Hupstate Artist Residency

The Hupstate residency is designed to provide a generous and spacious environment for the development of the circus arts in NY State and/or Native Nations based therein. It does this by giving individual circus artists from the region time and space with an idea or project of their choosing that they want to develop, polish, investigate, or work on.

The Hupstate Residency is a collaboration between the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts and Circus Culture.
